WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The start of Spring is less than two weeks away which means allergy season for many people.
While this is a time of the year that many people enjoy, but those whose suffer from allergies may dread it.
County Extension Director Al Hight says, “Anytime you got flowers opening you got pollen being produced.”
Hight says it’s almost that time for trees and plants to begin blooming which causes more of a headache for many of you.
“A lot of people blame pine pollen cause it’s so visible that yellow stuff everywhere, but the pine pollen isn’t much of a problem,” Hight said. “It’s usually trees like oak, pecans, and grasses when they start putting out seed head.”
Hight says it’s hard to say whether pollen will be worst this year or not.
“You certainly have a much more diverse type of blooms and much more diverse type of pollens shed in the Spring because like I said there are so many things blooming so it’s sometimes hard to give a hard and fast answer that this is always a problem and everybody is different,” Hight said.
With spring-like weather in store this week, it’s likely to see boost in pollen levels a little early.
